How does evaporative cooling work? > > >

Regular fans simply circulate the existing air, same humidity at the same temperature. The Quietcool takes that same existing air, combines it with evaporating water, which dramatically lowers the temperature.

Quietcools rely on the principle of evaporation to cool your environment and ensure “thermal comfort”. Thermal comfort depends upon a number of factors, including environmental factors such as humidity, air temperature and air speed.
Air passes through wet filter pads that quickly absorb the heat present in the environment and changes the water to a vapour. The heat used to change the water to a vapour is eliminated from the environment, hence the air is cooled.

Will evaporative cooling work in a humid climate? > > >

Yes. The evaporative cooling concept will work any time you are able to achieve evaporation. The more complete the evaporation, the more effective the system will work.  Areas with high humidity levels will experience a drop in temperature of up to 10 degrees.  The lower the humidity the better the cooling effect.

What sort of power and water connections do I need? > > >

Your QuietCool unit must be plugged into a fused or circuit breaker protected 10 Amp, 220/240 Volt, 50 Hz circuit – unless specifically manufactured for another voltage / frequency configuration.

Water Hookup for your Quietcool is made with a common garden hose. This type of connection is quite acceptable for most  installations  with standard water pressures.  QuietCool units used in areas with pressures above 120psi must use pressure reducing valves or pressure  regulators that can be obtained by the consumer locally

Which unit do I need? > > >

Quietcool units are suitable for a wide array of applications.  Below are some examples of how the units can be used and information to help you decide which unit will best suit your needs.

QC18VS - 18" Quietcool
This little unit will cool up to 70sqm of floor area, has a dry (no water) weight of 25kg and is 95cm high x 95cm deep x 75cm wide.  This unit is used for cooling small areas and as a spot cooler.   For example the unit can be used to cool a particular person/area or to cool a small area like an outdoor marquee or workshop.  Being compact and not overly heavy this unit is easly tranported from site to site also.

QC36VS - 36" Quietcool
This mid-size unit will cool up to 270sqm of floor area, has a dry (no water) weight of 80kg and is 160cm wide x 155cm high x 75cm deep.  This unit is used for cooling small to medium sized areas, it's size, cooling capacity and portablity make it our most popular model.  From your backyard shed to a state of the art warehouse facilty, from 1 mile underground on a mine site to an outdoor festival this units applications are many and diverse.

QC48VS - 48" Quietcool
This is our largest Quietcool unit and will cool up to 390sqm of floor area, has a dry (no water) weight of 160kg and is 200cm wide x 200cm high x 100cm deep.  This unit is used for cooling large areas. It's portablity and powerful cooling capacity lets you cool large areas with a single unit and reduces the number of units needed to cool overly large areas .

Can I use evaporative cooling in a enclosed environment? > > >

Evaporative coolers should not be used in totally enclosed environments.  They use the process of water evaporation to cool the air, thus humidifying the air.  If there is no fresh air flow and the cooler continuously recycles the same air you will get a build up of moisture/condensatation.

Where should I position my cooler? > > >

Ideally your unit would be positioned facing a fresh air opening to create an effective air cooling cycle.

Using the diagram below as an example, by placing the unit in the back corner of the warehouse facing the open roller door, the unit will draw the hot dry air down through the unit and push the cooled air towards the open roller door. As the cooled air passes through the lower area of the warehouse towards the opening, fresh air is drawn back into the warehouse in the upper area of the opening creating an effective cooling air cycle.

How much water will my unit use? > > >

Does my unit have a warranty? > > >

All our Quietcools come with a 2yr replacement warranty on the motor and a 1yr replacement warranty on the sump pump.  Please note that warranty is voided if part failure is due to operator error. eg pump is run without water.

Trouble Shooting

There's an odour coming from the unit? > > >

If your unit is new - New pads may have an odour until they have throughly wet up.
Solution - Drain and refill your sump several times in the first week.

After normal use -  Water quality and environmental controls.
Solution - Your sump water should be drained once a month or sooner depending on environmental conditions

No water running over the pads? > > >

Cause - Water flow control valve is closed    Solution - Open the valve (red handle)
Cause - Water supply is turned off at main supply    Solution - Open the tap
Cause - Pump is switched off     Solution - Turn the pump switch on
Cause - Filter is clogged     Solution - Open your filter and clean the internal screen

Always make sure your unit is turned off and disconnected from power and water supply before inspecting your unit or doing any maintenance.

Water on the floor? > > >

Front of unit
Cause - Too much water running over the pads.    Solution - Reduce the water flow using the water flow valve (red handle)

Back of unit
Cause - Excess water at the top or bottom of the pads     Solution - Reduce the water flow using the water flow valve (red handle)
Cause - Leak from the bottom of the pads     Solution - Check that fan has not been turned off and the pump left on.
Cause - Damage to the housing     Solution - Repair as necessary.

Water on the floor after overnight shut down
Cause - Excessive water pressure      Solution - Max water supply pressure 820 KPA (120 psi).  Adjust water supply tap or install a pressure regulator.  
Cause - Float valve is stuck     Solution - Remove pads and examine float valve for debris or damage.

The fan runs but has no speed control? > > >

Check your drive belt tension and adjust if necessary by using the adjuster bolt on the motor plate/motor mount.

The unit has power but won't start? > > >

Our motors and pumps have built in thermal overloads to prevent them from burning out if there is an issue with power supply to the unit eg. fluctuating power supply.

The thermal overloads will reset once the motor or pump has cooled.

The pump is running and the flow control gate valve is open but there is no water running over the pads? > > >

A build up of silt and or debri in your sump water can interfere with the magnetic drive of the pump.

Disconnect your unit from power and water supply and remove the pads to inspect the pump.  Remove the water inlet face plate on the front of the pump to expose the impeller (leave the inlet elbow attached to the face plate).  Remove the impeller and it's magnetic shaft from the pump bore and inspect both the impeller and pump bore and clean them.  If there is a calcium or mineral build up, remove it with 300 grit emery paper or similar.  Insert the impeller back into the pump bore and replace the inlet face plate.

Always make sure your unit is turned off and disconnected from power and water supply before inspecting your unit or doing any maintenance.

There are drops of water coming from the front of the unit or you can feel drops of water in the air stream? > > >

If the filter pads are not installed correctly, it will result in a loss of performance and water will be pulled from the pads and into the conditioned space.

 

 

The steeper 45° angle should slope downward  toward the air entering side, while the shallower 15° angle slopes downward toward the inside of your cooler.
 

Maintenance

Shutdown Guide > > >

To prevent algae growth, allow your pads to dry out at the end of the day. Turn off the pump and continue to run the fan for 10 - 15 minutes.  We also recommend turning your main water supply off at shutdown to avoid a build up of pressure in your waterline overnight.

How to drain your sump water

Close the red handle 'flow control' gate valve on the side or front of the unit and open the blue handle 'sump drain' bib cock valve, then turn the pump on.  Once the water stops flowing from the bib cock valve, turn the pump off.

How often should I pump out the reservoir? > > >

This does depend on environmental factors and applications of the units.  Changing your sump water regularly helps prevent salt deposits from forming on the pads and dirt that has been filtered out of the air from accumulating in the sump.

As a guide for units being used regulary, in a normal warehouse environment or similar using town water, we recommend changing your sump water at least once a month.

For units that are being used in dusty environments, as an air scrubber, using bore, tank  or water with high mineral content, we recommend changing your sump water every 2 weeks.

Monthly or bi monthly maintenance > > >

Recommended monthly or bi monthly maintenance (depending on the environment)

  • Drain the sump by closing the red handled flow control gate valve and opening the blue handled bib cock valve, then turn the pump on.  Once the water stops flowing from the bib cock valve, turn the pump off.
  • Remove the top retaining bar at the back of the unit and remove the pads.
  • Pressure clean the inside of the unit and pressure clean the pads using a fan jet.
    • Do not get the jet too close to the pads, you will damage the pad.
    • Do not aim the jet directly at your motor, controller or inner junction box.
  • Re install pads taking note of the flute angle. 45° flute must be pointing downwards toward the outside of the cooler. 15° flute faces downwards toward the fan impeller.
  • Check the breather hole at the bottom rear of the motor and remove any build up of calcium/ mineral deposits.
  • Check the drive belt tension and adjust if required.

6 Monthly maintenance > > >

Recommended 6 monthly maintenance

  • Grease back to back bearings located behind the Impeller.
  • Remove inlet face plate on the sump pump (turn inlet face plate backwards ¼ turn and remove) then remove the impeller with shaft.
  • Check for calcium/ mineral build up in pump bore. If present, remove with 300 grit emery paper or similar.

Always make sure your unit is turned off and disconnected from power and water supply before inspecting your unit or doing any maintenance.

Correct filter pad installation > > >
